What is a postpartum doula?

A postpartum doula supports the family in a variety of ways, easing the transition into parenthood.

This can look like:

  • breastfeeding support

  • infant care instruction

  • mental health support

  • processing your birth story

  • meal preparation and planning

  • light housekeeping and laundry

  • sibling care and adjustment support

  • babywearing education

  • and more!

what will a session with me look like?

Imagine me arriving to your home, I make you a snack and a warm, nourishing beverage. We sit down to chat and talk about all the things. Then you shower while I watch your baby, then get the two of you settled in bed for a nap. While you're resting, I prepare dinner, run a load of laundry, and tidy up. You awake to a clean home and a hot meal. Sounds amazing, right?!

my approach

Not every appointment will be like this. In the early days and weeks, when you're deep in newborn life and survival mode, I meet you wherever you're at. But for later visits, I like to have a more sustainable approach, and focus on systems that will build your confidence, so you don't miss me too much in between visits. For example, I am a huge advocate for safe bedsharing, which is often the way that babies and their mamas can get the most sleep. I'll share resources for setting up a safe sleep space, and other ways to optimize your sleep, so you can have more restful nights, instead of constantly relying on friends and family to help so you can nap.
